Stories from the Mohawk Hudson Rail Trail — In the course of collecting and writing “The Notorious Winn Brother’s” many interesting accounts of real people and events have come to light. Although interesting these stories do not fit into our larger narrative and so we sought to create an alternative space in which to share them. This is such a space.

The Wayward Wandering Master Wands…

This brief snippit from the summer of 1888 involves what appears to be the gobsmacked son of Shipping Clerk turned Grocery Store owner John B. Wands.

According to the Burns Map in Dennis Sullivan’s Voorheesville History “Sketch…” Wands Grocery was  situated where Ricci’s Grocery later became a fixture of V’ville for most of the 20th century.

We may yet find a way to fit this into our narrative. Encounters with trains at crossings were not always this innocuous. Most ended as you may well imagine with tragedy and death.
